The Role

To be a multi-skilled HV Technician, you must be able to carry out HV fitter and jointing tasks up to 33kV, either as an Authorised Person (AP) or working towards a Senior Authorised Person (SAP).

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Project Engineer, you will carry out all electrical works, ranging from installation, routine maintenance, and repairs for our DNO and high-voltage customer networks.

Principle Accountabilities

  • To carry out HV cable jointing and terminations on 11kV and 33kV
  • Installation, refurbishment, and maintenance of LV/HV equipment.
  • Carrying out electrical testing and fault finding.
  • Carrying out mechanical modifications and repairs.
  • Installation and modification of AC/DC wiring and earthing.
  • To aid electricians and other trades on larger installations.
  • Take a Supervisory role when necessary.
  • Attend training and continuous development opportunities as required.
  • Project a professional image to clients and colleagues.
  • Mentor and coach junior staff in developing their knowledge and skills.
  • Assist with site breakdowns and investigative procedures.
  • Carry out work safely, always adhering to health and safety procedures.
  • Act as a competent person to receive safety documentation.
  • Take personal ownership and responsibility of any company property entrusted to them.
  • Contribute to the future success of MES Power Engineering and its clients.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Achieved City & Guilds 236 Part 1 & 2 or equivalent to an electrician.
  • Completed a formal jointing and fitter qualification or willing to work towards
  • Must hold SJIB-approved ECS card or EUSR Card.
  • Computer literate – skilled in MS Office.
  • Being authorised by SSE would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Full UK driving license

Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven track record of experience in the Electrical and/or Distribution Industry.
  • Experience with High & Low Voltage switchgear and associated apparatus is highly advantageous.
  • Experience in control wiring & protection relays.
  • Experience in delivering efficient and effective services to customers.
  • Good knowledge of Distribution Safety Rules, safety procedures and codes of practice in combination with health & safety legislation requirements.
  • Good knowledge of HSEQ and its practical implications.
  • Proven ability to deliver projects within time, cost, quality and safety.
  • Good knowledge of a wide range of High Voltage plant and equipment.
