The Role

You will be responsible for assisting in managing a small team. This is a critical role that requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to lead and mentor less experienced members of the team.

As the Design Engineer, you will provide detailed and accurate plans to allow our teams to deliver clients' projects at the budget cost. The role holder will have excellent communication skills to work with all staff, suppliers, and customers.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Operations Manager you will carry out all electrical design works which range from LV to 33kV, and associated protection and design studies required for ICP connections and customer private networks.

• Assess the engineering feasibility and compliance and prepare accurate budgetary requirements for new projects.
• Assessment of new designs and applications in one or more of the following areas - substations, overhead lines and underground cables, private networks.
• Controlling risks and budgets keeps all project stakeholders informed of progress and changes.
• Ensuring all work adheres to the company policies, safety rules, statutory regulations and customer requirements.

• Provide technical support to the project team in designing, constructing, and operating power systems, substations, and networks.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance and development support.
• Evaluate and co-ordinate ‘new ideas’, technical developments, new equipment and alternative-working methods to provide cost savings, efficiencies and improved safety.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct root cause analysis.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Contribute to the future success of MES Power Engineering and its clients.

Qualifications & Experience

• Preferably a time served Electrical Engineer.
• Ideally, HNC/HND or have a Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Carried out designs for DNO or Private Networks.
• Three years experience, as a minimum, in a design role.
• Must hold SJIB-approved ECS card or EUSR Card.
• Computer literate – skilled in MS Office, AutoCAD, Trimble, Wndebut, and ETAP design packages.
• Full UK driving license preferable.

Knowledge & Experience

• Proven track record of experience in the Electrical and/or Distribution Industry.
• Good knowledge of a wide range of High Voltage plant and equipment.
• Experience in control wiring & protection relays.
• Experience in delivering efficient and effective services to customers.
• Good knowledge Distribution Safety Rules, safety procedures and codes of practice in combination with health & safety legislation requirements.
• Good knowledge of HSEQ and its practical implications.
• Proven ability to deliver projects within time, cost, quality, and safety.
